Q: How often / long will the generator run?

The target for these sites is > 90% annual renewable penetration. It is estimated that approximately 200-400 hours per year will come from back-up generation, but ideally less than 200 hours.

Q: What are the risks to people, livestock or equipment?

Western Power has an obligation to manage the safety and reliability of SPS to the same level as the traditional distribution network. Western Power has carried out rigorous safety testing and the SPS units have been built in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and Western Power's technical specifications. The regulation states that customers retain the right to a connection quote for 10 years after the poles and wires have been removed, if the new connection point is within 100 metres of where the Western Power infrastructure was.

Q: What effects does the unit have on the environment?

The target for these sites is > 90% annual renewable penetration, which means less carbon emissions.

Q: If the unit fails, how long will I be without power?

The SPS will charge the batteries through the solar panels which will supply power. There is a generator to provide back-up power. Any fault messages will be received by the control centre and a maintenance crew will be dispatched as soon as the fault message is received.

Q: What security measures are implemented once the unit is installed?

The SPS unit will be fenced in and the gate will be locked.

Q: Will my livestock need to be locked up during the installation?

It will be the safer way as there will be vehicle movement and open trenching to lay the cables.

Q: Do I have to be on site for the assessment and installation?

We will require someone who can agree on placement of the SPS unit during site assessment only.
